Hatha Yoga Immersion

Join me for this two-hour workshop. You’ll practice asana (standing and seated postures) and learn some basic kriyas and pranayama. People often think of Hatha Yoga as a sort of gentle yoga, but when practiced with attention to alignment, a focus on breath, drishti, and bandha the body generates an internal heat even without the sun-salutations and lift-ups/jump-backs found in the Pattabhi Jois system of Ashtanga. Some of the asanas will be familiar to you, but I promise you’ll learn a few new ones too. Welcome everyone.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to breathe and move. Layers are recommended. Have water handy, and tissue paper to clear your sinuses before the breath work (pranayama).

Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga

In this 2-hour workshop you will learn the fundamentals of the Ashtanga system of yoga (Pattabhi Jois style Ashtanga/astangajooga) including how to breathe properly using Ujjayi-style breath, how to perform Suryanamaskara (Sun Salutations A & B), and some basic asanas (postures). You will also be introduced to the techniques specific to the Ashtanga style of yoga practice. By attending this workshop you will be introduced to the tools with which you can work as you develop your proficiency in yoga on-the-mat in any regular/ongoing ashtanga classes — guided (led) and/or Mysore style classes (virtual or in-person). Seize this opportunity to start a healthy routine of yoga, for the health of the body and mind.
